Risen Review (May Contain Spoilers)

0
I love movies and tv, and it seems like an age since I first heard whiff about this movie Risen.

In summary Risen is a movie set in 33 AD, when a Roman Tribune in Judea is tasked to find the missing body of an executed Jew rumored to have risen from the dead.

I finally got to see it over the weekend and in short i loved it.

In truth it is quite a slow movie, but when it has moments, boy does it have moments.
It's not altogether accurate to the Biblical narrative but it does not take away from it. And where other recent movies such as Noah and Exodus: Gods and Kings strayed wildly and in fact created more doubt over their inspiration or source material, Risen affirms the resurrection.

The main character played by Joseph Fiennes arrives at the cross of a dead Jesus and has a good look at the dead Jew. 3 days later Pilate tasks him with the task of finding the body which has been stolen by Jesus' disciples. Eventually he tracks the 12 and bursting into the room he looks around the gathering before his eyes return to the man in their midst; this moment changes everything.

That moment in the movie reminded me of how it is when God, said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” and shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:6 ESV). That moment when we first encounter the resurrected Christ in our individual lives, through His Word and by His Spirit. It is then that everything changes.

It didn't disappoint.

Watch out for Bartholomew - his character is awesome
