My computer won't listen to me!

1

Have any of you ever tried using the new speech recognition features that are built in to 'Windows Vista'?

Sam (my boss in work) was trying it out yesterday on his new computer and we were totally amazed at how it works. Just by training the computer to the sound of his own voice - he could command the computer to do loads of things - just by telling it to.

For example - he could open 'Internet Explorer' just by saying the words, "open internet explorer." He could maximise and minimise windows, type loads of words; and then go back and correct a specific word - all without touching the mouse or the keyboard!

I was impressed, to say the least.

And so I couldn't wait to get home to try out this speech recognition on my own laptop, but after an hour of complete frustration I had to give up. And right up until the time I am writing this post - I am still not sure why the speech recognition won't work on my computer.

It could be that my headset microphone is not working or that the line-in isn't recognising it - but the very annoying result of it all is that my computer won't respond to my commands!

It struck me that this is what it might feel like for the LORD when He constantly speaks to us - tenderly asking us to follow after Him and obey Him, according to His Word.

His is a voice that we, as God's children recognise so readily - yet how often I ignore that familiar voice and choose to do my own thing, somehow thinking I know better than the One Who created the vast Universe in six literal days - simply with the sound of His voice!

The thing that frustrates me most is that I had so many plans for this speech recognition on the computer - I was going to be able to type my sermons up super-fast, but alas my computer is not responding to my commands.

Brothers and sisters in Christ - God has totally perfect plans for each one of us as His children - I think it's about time we started to respond to the unmistakable voice of JESUS!

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." John 10:27

I'm really not into Windows Vista as it uses a lot of RAM. I would prefer XP or Win7. Anyway, it's a good application but the usability is limited. I do hope they can expand it more.
