How do we know God's will?

This is perhaps a response written for love of many friends who are trying to discern God's will in thier lives!

Different people have many views on how to know the specifics of God's will for thier lives, one of the most common and to be frank most absurd is that posters, words, adverts etc are given as confirmation or guidance!
