Hudson Taylor a strange attainment of holiness

2
I've been thinking alot on Some of Hudson Taylor's writings on Holiness:

"Do you know, I now think that this striving, longing, hoping for better days to come is not the true way to holiness, happiness or usefulness. It is better, no doubt, far better than being satisfied with poor attainments, but not the best way after all. I have been struck with a passage from a book . . . entitled Christ is All. It says,

How then to have our faith increased?Only by thinking of all that Jesus is and all He is for us: His life, His death, His work, He Himself as revealed to us in the Word, to be the subject of our constant thoughts. Not a striving to have faith . . . but a looking off to the Faithful One seems all we need; a resting in the Loved One entirely, for time and for eternity."

Can it be that by resting in & upon Christ's Holiness, not our striving and trying to be holy we might actually find freedom?

Could it be that by this, by looking to Him for His holiness we might actually find ourselves living it out in our lives?

When we are striving & trying for faith or holiness surely the emphasis moves to us; Our Faith, Our Holiness and away from the COMPLETE work of Christ. Is it then that we ought always to look to Him, not only for salvation, but actual practical holiness?

I appreciate the posting of your thoughts Gary. My own thoughts in recent months have been on the grace and gift given by Christ and where our responsibility comes in the quest for and pursuit of holiness. I know I am prone to fail in understanding when and wherein to rest and to strive. There is much food for thought here! Too much to respond now maybe.
