Listen To Him

0
For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” . . ."

Here we have Peter describe the events on the mount of Transfiguration, you'll find them in Matthew 17:1-13. But we'll also notice that God the Father said something else; "Listen to him". And this is what I believe Peter goes on to explain in the following verses:

". . . we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. . ."

The Bible, the word of Christ, as Paul calls it (Colossians 3:16) is what Peter points to here as he even nudges our memories to Psalm 119:105 with the analogy of a lamp.
"Your Word is a lamp onto my feet . . ." And Peter having experienced being right there at the transfiguration declares the Word of Christ to be 'more sure' than his experience.

Revelation and visions etc may be 100% genuine but the Word of Christ, the Scriptures, this lamp to our feet is to be our number one priority in our pursuit of Christ.
