So, in case you sometimes think about asking that of me here's the profound and thought through answer:
"I take it off for work incase it catches in the machine. If you see me without it, it's because i forgot to put it back on."
The ring is a symbol of my love and commitment to Barbara; a sign of that covenant between us, but it does not make it. Taking it off doesn't mean i cease to be one with her as husband & wife. Taking it off does mean i want to keep my finger from being severed from my hand - this is a pretty good reason i think - though a severed finger in the cause of furthering the Gospel would make for an interesting story . . . wait, i tried that and the doctor sowed it back on!
