I recently bought Fujifilm's HS10 camera.
The thing with this camera is that everyone seems to have to work at it in order to get to grips with it and get great results.
Reading manuals, books, friends who're into photography, and especially this website & blog have been most helpful, and while i am trailing a long way behind, and wouldn't say my results are great, i'm still pretty happy with the results i am getting (Flickr).
It's evident that different people favour different modes when taking pictures, some favour 'A' or 'S' while others use 'P', me i'm landing on the 'M' with complete control in my hands and headache as i get it wrong so many times.
This camera is meant to be worked at and played with in order for various results to occur. Automatic mode is grand, but cruising along without effort doesn't get anything different than anyone else.
HS10 gets a lot of flack, no it is not a DSLR but it is more than a compact point & shoot.
Priced around the £230 mark due to the HS20's release, & with a 30xoptical zoom it's pretty powerful stuff at great value.
To be honest i'm having a ball with it. While i'm frustrated with my lack of knowledge, ability and a poor creative eye; it's just fun to click away and capture the odd decent image from life.
