Declining Christianity

2
I watched a program last night about the decline of Christianity in the UK. It was pretty interesting and i did enjoy watching it. But even the 'defence' for Christianity and the arguments put forth as to what may turn this around pointed right back to one of the biggest problems and reasons for this decline.

You see it was about church attendance and living according to principles from the Bible, such as the 10 commandments and the beatitudes. But there wasn't a lot about Jesus.
Sure, He was mentioned, but not with the prominence that the Bible gives Him.

The answer is not to bring the Bible to people as though it's a set of instructions for living, or a guide for a better life. The answer is with Jesus as the one whom the whole book is about.

Or to put it another way : preach the gospel.

Worryingly it's not just the UK. It is right throughout the western world. Here in Australia, church attendances have declined sharply in the last fifty years. Monthly 18% of the population go, weekly around 7-9%. In the younger demographics the figures attending are lower again. It's pretty grim.

That is pretty grim.
When i watched the program i was considering Matt 7:14 "For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few."

Obviously we long for more people to come to church because it means many more will hear the Gospel, meet Jesus as saviour & Lord, as the gate (door) and the path (way). But it's probably something that shouldn't suprise us when numbers finding Him drop
