And not just one, but i managed a whole week of them.
Anyway, these times of prayer were specifically for a series of meetings.
About halfway through the week a strange occurrence took place at one of the early morning prayer meetings. Not the strange occurances a new Christian (like myself at the time) hopes for. You know what i mean - earthquake, fire, wind etc.
Anyway it wasn't that kind, but the kind that makes you a little confused and throws you from joining in prayer.
It happened when the guest speaker began praying "Lord, would you save *John Wesley, really speak into his life and bring him to your son . . ."
In astonishment i looked up to find that Tim Millen was looking back at me with similar puzzlement written across on his face.
Later we discussed possible reasons for this:
- The early mornings had taken their toll.
- He'd flipped religions and was now praying for the dead.
- He was only 3rd of the way through a John Wesley biography, eagerly anticipating Wesley's salvation, and was engrossed with it so much that reality & history had collided in his mind.
- We had both mis-heard what he said, after all, he couldn't possibly have prayed for Wesley's conversion.
*A few weeks later we finally asked someone about this and heard that a guy from the area was called John Wesley - Phew!
By the way, this wasn't at the Church i grew up in, but at a youth fellowship i went to after Jesus saved me.
