I am grateful for Martin Luther, the other reformers and for the whole reformation.
We should indeed read up on that period of history and familiarize ourselves with the people we know as reformers, along with the teachings that are delivered to us by them.
But Reformation Day is not primarily about the reformers.
More important than the reformers, is the message that they *preached. That Gospel of Grace that has reached through the ages to transform lives.
But even these doctrines of grace do not simply stop with themselves.
Rather, they exist because of, and point back towards a person. Jesus.
He came and lived among us, died and arose again on our behalf. He done the work for us because we could not. It is only because of Jesus that the reformation happened, and this gospel is described as the Word of Christ for a reason (it's all about Him).
Ultimately Reformation Day is about Jesus.
*Space prevents the mention of the teachings that flow from the reformers, but i'm primarily thinking about the Gospel of grace; that salvation comes by grace alone, received by faith alone, & that apart from works of the law the righteous will live by faith.
