Looking Like Our Dad

1
A short while ago i walked into a shop where a complete stranger, who worked there, approached me nervously and asked "do you mind me asking if you're a Boal?"
When i replied that i am and that Walter is my dad she declared "I've seen you in the shop a few times and each time i'm thinking 'he has to be a Boal'."
We went on to chat a while and then before leaving i smiled and thanked her for the insult.

Natural Parents
Isn't it strange how people can say that we look like our mum or dad. Try as we might, to look like the hero we look up to; our genetic code takes us along a different route; one where we look more like our parents every passing year.

And it's not just looks; as a parent i can even see my own habits, nature and temperment displayed in my son (This isn't a good thing at times).
We use our parents as examples, and 'image' or 'model' them in our own lives.

Heavenly Father
As 'New Creatures' who have been purchased by Christ's blood, and who are now called 'Children of God', it is logical that our lives ought to image God.
I guess that's why were told to be
imitators of God, as beloved children.
As we read the Bible the Spirit of Christ who is in us reveals to us God's nature, character, temperment, actions etc. And that very same Spirit begins provoking us and changing us so we begin living the same way.

Our understanding of who God is and how
He works will determine how we live.

Who knows perhaps in the future a stranger may approach us and ask if we know God because of how we image Him (I see this as highly unlikely in my case).

Yes! Let me seek to ever be an imitator of my heavenly father...
