Too lazy to peel an Orange & some thoughts on laziness in us as Christians

1
The Belfast Telegraph has an article on some everyday things that are in danger of extinction because we deem them to be hastle & we're too lazy.
Things that are listed by John Walsh in this article are; peeling oranges, Lunching, washing the car, writing, shaving, Reading, Strolling & Tea-Making.

Are we really that lazy? Probably!

I think this is a reflection of how we as humans tend to have a mindset that we are too busy, or that things that are too much hastle ought to be set aside for the easier, quicker option. And what of Christians? Are we any less affected by this trend?

Could we make our own list of things that we are neglecting, setting aside or opting out of because we are too busy or it's too much hastle.

Here's some suggestions:

Study of the Bible
Isn't that what the Pastor's for? He studies the Bible and then passes it on to us in easy to listen, humorous, bitesize pieces on Sunday morning. But personal study for most of us would take up too much time, and so we take daily readings that were originally to supplement our study and have replaced it with them.

Personal/Private Prayer
Spending an hour or more in private prayer is so foreign to us in our busy culture. Often it seems to take up so much time that could be used for activities, besides it's difficult to even concentrate on prayer for any length of time. Even the corporate prayer meeting in Church is the least attended event in most churches, we just don't have the time for it.

Hospitality & Friendship
Putting in the effort & spending time building up relationships with those around us, specifically neighbours can be such a chore. We'd feel like we have to tidy the house as though the Queen was visiting and cook a 'Jamie Oliver' type, 5 course meal if we invited them round. Or we'd have to force conversation with others. Too much hastle for us, we'd rather spend time watching 'community' happen on TV soaps than put in the effort & time on the real community around us.

Helping others in Practical ways to show that Jesus loves them
Our lives are busy & we've enough to do at work or at home without taking the time to help cut the grass of the elderly person across the street, we even complain about 'having' to take our elderly relatives shopping or even to the Dr. or hospital. After a long hard day at work all we want to do is put the feet up infront of the TV and relax.

Speak and preach the Gospel
Again, that's what we employ the Pastor for & why we have the Gospel service. When there's weather or sport that we can chat about (if we even take time to chat to people) it seems like such an effort or embarrassment to mention that they need Jesus for the forgiveness of sins.
