From Bethlehem to Eternity past - part 4

1
So was Jesus really involved in the Creation of the whole Universe?

Look again at our opening passage in John chapter 1

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

So the Word was there at the beginning
The Word was with God
The Word was God
And all things were made through Him

So who then is this Word that John is talking about here?

Well look down to verse 14

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Who is the Word?

It’s Jesus!
It’s Christ!
It’s our Saviour!
He became flesh as a baby in Bethlehem!
He dwelt among us for 33 years .

He is our CREATOR GOD!

The Apostle Paul backs up John’s account when he wrote to the Colossians in Chapter1:16

Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
The phrase "all things" means that Christ created the whole universe of things.
"Every form of matter and life owes its origin to the Son of God, no matter what sphere it may be found, or with what qualities it has.”
Paul also states that "all things were created through Him and for Him."
It was for His own glory and purposes that all things were created.
And this is backed up again by the writer to the Hebrews;

Hebrews 1: 1 ¶ God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,
2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

This passage emphasizes that Christ created the ages.
Remember the term worlds literally means ages.

In other words, Christ created the entire space-time universe (i.e. time, space, force, action, and matter).

The entire universe and everything that makes it function.

It is created through the Lord Jesus!

Not only that, but look at the next verse!

Hebrews 1:3
“who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,”

Jesus upholds ALL THINGS by the word of His power!

It’s exactly what Paul is saying in Colossians 1:17
“… and in Him all things consist.”

Do you have any idea what that means?

It means Jesus keeps the earth at 93 million miles away from the sun – so that we don’t freeze to death, yet we don’t burst into flames.

If the moon was any bigger, or if we had more than one moon as other planets have, the tides would have flooded the Earth.

That’s Jesus again!

Who keeps the law of gravity intact so that we don’t float up and whack our heads on this ceiling?

Jesus!
Who continues to allow our brains to subconsciously tell our hearts to keep beating?

And our lungs to keep sucking in and blowing out air?

It’s Jesus!

Who keeps the air at the right balance between oxygen and nitrogen so that the atmosphere doesn’t explode?

Jesus, Jesus, JESUS!

JESUS holds everything together!

He upholds ALL THINGS by the word of His power!

Jesus is the SOVEREIGN CREATOR AND SUSTAINER OF EVERYTHING IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE.

So now we’ve gone right back in time to the first day of our universe and found that Christ was there – Creating.

But is that as far back as he goes?
