Overcoming Sin And Temptation

2
Ok, so I usually write book reviews over on the Bottear Books Blog but this is an amazing book!
Overcoming Sin and Temptation by John Owen (edited by Justin Taylor and Kelly M. Kapic)
They have brought Owen, who is renowned as a bit difficult to read into a more accessable format, updating some terms like thou with you, hath to have and a few more edits including the entrance of scripture references when Owen did not place them.
It arrived from Amazon on Saturday morning and the meals from it over the past few days have been amazing!
Praise God for the Puritans and for John Owen's depth of insight to the Christian life. I could try and describe its impact on my heart or my mind, perhaps some of the struggles i've had trying to grasp what is written (I finished school after GSCE, so i'm a bit dumb).

But none of my descriptions could do it justice or describe to you the joy and help that this book has already been.
I can only say "order one up"
Available from Amazon (unfortunately nowhere in my area seems to have it in yet)

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the heads up on this volume of Owen. I read the 'Mortification' earlier this year and was deeply deeply challenged by it. I must look out for this compendium you recommend.

I've also heard great things (although I've haven' read it myself) about Kris Lundgaard's 'The Enemy Within' which is a contemporary rendering and application of Owen's treatment of sin. Have you encountered it?

How vital all of this stuff is for our daily walk. Owen's exegesis is always sound, but it's his application which blows me away time after time.

God bless,
Andrew

Have only heard the name Kris Lundgaard before, I think D A Carson mentioned him in a message but can't really remember! I'll look out for it though, take it Amazon will have it. Thank you for the recommendation!
And John Owen is amazing, I read, or tried to read a book by him when I first was saved but didn't get a word of it, but i'm absolutely eating this one up.
And as you say his application is so good, the practical stuff he comes out with...he could be writing it today! (Well apart from a few things). Praise Christ for Men like him.
Your brother because of Golgotha,
Gary
