"But in the time of their trouble they say, 'Arise and save us!'
But where are your gods that you made for yourself? Let them arise, if they can save you, in your time of trouble..."
"Why do you contend with me? You have all transgressed against me, declares the Lord.
Jeremiah 2:28-29
In essence God here says where has your hope been these past years?
Now they need deliverance and time has got tough many question where God is and even call for His help. Yet he says to Israel to look at the things they've forsaken Him for and had their hope in.
Can they not save us?
We too can be like that. Seeking or questioning God only when times are tough and we long for deliverance. Our lives are generally spent chasing and living for other things like finances, sex, jobs, sport, family, etc.
How then can we expect to contend with God? We have heard His word (2:31) yet refused Him to chase other things. Can we possibly expect Him to listen to us and to deliver us. How can we question His love when we have spent our lives running away from Him.
