Cross Of Fire by David Gilman

The Master of War series by David Gilman has become my favourite series of books. Each book is anticipated and pre ordered well in advance. If you haven't read any I definitely recommend them.

Thomas Blackstone has came a long way from the archer in the first book and is now the king's master of war.  Still feeling the grief of his dead wife and daughter, and safeguarding his son Henry. We find a hero that is human and flawed, yet brutal in his duty to his King, and the Prince who's life his has so entangled with.
Defiant and dutiful Thomas is an engaging character and I'm already looking forward to next year's instalment (I have to start reading these books slower).

An added bonus is always a historical note. I live these and find they drive me to Google to find out more about the history the books are woven into.
