"Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” . . . . . . So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said . . . . . . “Lazarus, come out.” The man who had died came out . . ."
(John 11:39-44 ESV)
I remember years ago Gary Bolton shared a thought from this passage concerning our responsibility & our reliance on Christ to do the work. Here we find Jesus giving people a task; "Take away the stone" before He works the miraculous & raises Lazarus from the dead (something only He could do).
In regards to our growth, worship, evangelism, and deepening relationship with God we find many tasks (eg Bible study, prayer, actually speaking up . . .) but while we do these we also rely on Jesus as the only one who can do the work. We roll the stone, He does the miracle!
We read our Bible & He brings us from one degree of glory to the next.
We pray & He answers.
We speak & He works in people's hearts.
We 'do' by faith & He accomplishes the task.
