This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. (John 5:18 ESV)
After telling the paralytic in Luke 5 that his sins were forgiven the Pharisees critically pointed at Jesus stating; "Who can forgive sins but God alone?" They were not wrong in saying this, in fact they were right on the mark. But they failed to see that Jesus' forgiveness of sins was because He is God.
Jesus at times was very honest about who He is, in John 14:9 He said "Whoever has seen me has seen the Father." And the council of the priests & elders condemned Him to death because He answered yes when the High Priest asked if He was "the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?" (Mark 14:61-62).
Even the demons testify to us as to who this man Jesus is. In Matthew 8:29 we read how many of them (legion) were fearful of Him; "And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?"
The New Testament is quite compelling with its arguments that Jesus was and is, and always will be God the Son. Will i/we worship Him as our God & Saviour today, offering Him praise for who He is, all He has done & all He promises? Will i/we kneel under the authority of Jesus as we seek to know, love, obey & worship Him more and more in our lives?
