The religious would never marry a prostitute; never mind send her gifts when she's left to go back to her old job in the night, nor would they buy her freedom when she's left destitute and worthless as a slave.
Grace on the other hand declares
"I will heal their apostasy; I will love them freely" [Hosea 14:4]
While religious people love to threaten and warn about judgement and chastisement for breaking the law, God's "heart recoils within (Him)" over the judgement and punishment, even as He speaks of it.
And while the religious person gives you a list of moral rules to obey in order to be acceptable, grace declares:
"So you, by the help of your God,
return,
hold fast to love and justice,
and wait for your God."
[Hosea 12:6, emphasis added]
