Growing Up In Church - 'That Little Fart'

2
As teenagers and young adults we brought many things to church. I'm not talking about our unique gifts or talents. No i'm talking sweet wrappers, elastic bands, pens to scribble out the word 'ecumenical' from the front page of the Hymn books (yes i'm that old; 'Hymn Books') and many other such things.

Over the next few Fridays i'm hoping to share a few funny stories from my childhood at Church. Admittedly Tim and Wilky are much funnier than i am so many of these tales star them, with me tagging along for the laugh.

But for today i thought the, somewhat infamous tale of that sunday school fart would be good to tell:

At a sunday school teachers meeting when there wasn't enough seats i, along with Tim sat on the floor. I can't remember why but there were many of the church leaders there (typically these were Dr's and successful business people etc who usually make up church leadership).

At a point in the meeting where the heated discussion (actually a raging argument) paused for breath and silence crept in; 'Fffffffaaaaaaaa' . . . it continued for an age . . . 'aaaaaaa rrrr rrrrrrrrr TttttT' went a loud ripple from my bum and proceeded to vibrate against the door i was leaning against, just to make sure no one missed it.
After the noise had faded all heads slowly turned to stare at me with mouths open and that stare that would kill. My mum (the superintendent) looked like she wanted the floor to swallow her like Korah (Num 16:32).
It was then, with eyes down and red faced, that i opened my mouth, not to some witty redirection but to the equally embarrassing words of "Ooops . . . uh . . . pardon me".

Timmy was hidden by a chair that he was neatly tucked behind as he fell down laughing with tears flowing from his eyes. He claims to randomly remember it to this day and still laughs untill he crys.

As for me, well im not sure if my fart had similar powers as Martin Luther claimed his did in chasing the devil away, because, slipping out of the room i have no idea if the argument continued. However, i am now in the farting hall of fame!.

It still haunts my dreams! And we still laugh about it.
