Apologies of not knowing who Sinclair Ferguson is (I will look him up) but the question is still the same and scarily I think the answer (at least for me) is prayer and a close walk with God. God transforms every part of our being and when Im not close to Him Im blocking God transforming me rather than embracing it.
Very challenging question and I havent blogged yet but I've also been really challenged by 'Just Do Something' - I'd say to anyone buy this book and read/discuss as its simple but so true and challenging.
Hey James W no apologies needed, we all have our own mentors, or guys we look up to in the faith. As you say the question is still the same regardless of which of these men or women of God we put in there.
thanks for commenting, and glad your enjoying just do something, i'm finding it to be continually helpful & challenging
I thought i'd add a bit of my own answer to this question:
I don't 'really' want it!
i honestly believe that much of what hinders my growth in Jesus is my love for other things, for sin, for weights that hold me back etc...
I'd rather watch 24 than get on my knees, rather be entertained than deal with serious issues.
My lukewarmness needs God's grace to be poured out upon me, or that by grace i get a serious kick in the jacksy!
What is most suprising is that i haven't been vomited from Christ but that His longsuffering Spirit is continuing His work on me. . .even though i have a tendency to slow that progress down
One word: discipline.
Oh, and by the way, I wish I had that aforementioned discipline!
I think Ferguson was reading John Owen since he was a teenager, which makes it even more depressing!
Great and challenging question Gary/Simon.
