"Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness."
Joshua 24:14(a)
Fear - Not simply 'fear' or 'fright' but calling for 'reverence' & 'devotion'.
the Lord - God (Jesus).
Serve - Not simply obedience as a servant, but this has a richer meaning & could easily be translated as 'worship'.
Sincerity - Wikipedia says "Sincerity is the virtue of one who speaks truly about his or her own feelings, thoughts, desires. Sincere expression carries risks to the speaker, since the ordinary screens used in everyday life are opened to the outside world. At the same time, we expect our friends, our lovers, our leaders "to be sincere"."
This is honest, non-hypocritical, take me as i am worship (service) that is not faked or put on.
Faithfulness - This has a meaning to be united to one other, and to them alone. It is seen in the call to be 'faithful' to our spouses & in union with them.
Here we see a call to faithfulness that points to the 1st commandment "You shall have no other gods before me".
We are to worship & serve God alone in reverence, sincerity & faithfulness.
