Last night I asked Jacob 'Where's God?' - He pointed up, to which I clapped & said: 'That's right, God's in heaven, but He's also here... ...You just can't see Him.'
At this point Jacob began looking around with a puzzled expression, with hands held high & shoulders shrugged he began saying 'Where He gone?... ...where He gone?'
Separation
Our first father, Adam walked in unity with God in Eden, no barriers; Adam, Eve & God walking in full relationship there. But then sin entered the world & we died Spiritually, thus finding a huge separation come between us & God. Now if we were to see God; we would surely die, even Moses was only permitted to see His back as God passed before him. And so we don't see Him, we are separated from Him, yet He is here.
Jesus came
Our separated state was bridged when Jesus came, lived a pure, sinless life, died & arose again; all on our behalf so that we may be credited His righteousness & He took our punishment.
Jesus came to reveal God
John 1:14 tells us "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth."
But in John 14:9 Jesus even makes a huge statement about Himself:
"Whoever has seen me has seen the Father."
To see The Father we need to see Jesus, and the Bible is the best place to go if we want to see Him. Yes we may see hints of revelation in art, music, nature and in many other places, but these will not reveal anything that contradict Scripture. In fact all other places of revelation must be brought under the rule & authority of the Bible. The Bible is not merely one of the ways God reveals Himself, but it is the ultimate way, and the rule above all others which we must assess them by.
Where's He gone?
He hasn't gone away, He's right here; but you just can't see Him.
Turn to His Word (I'd suggest John's Gospel) & seek Him hard, you will see Him there.
Don't get to the end of your life to find the words of another Jacob upon your lips:
Genesis 28:16 "Surely the Lord is in this place; and I did not know it."
