Wake

2
"You can gauge the size of a ship that has passed out of site by the huge wake it leaves behind."
Philip Yancey

Growing up I used to go camping with my family near Cranfield where we would always bring a couple of canoes. I used to love doing this, usually accompanied by my dad where we had fun, often catching the wake causes by a boat & riding the waves as far as they would take us. It remains a fond memory!

In human history the largest 'wake' was caused by Jesus, this is seen everywhere & even our calendar reflects His legacy, splitting history in two - A.D. or B.C.

When I read the above quote by Yancey my initial thoughts ran to the canoeing experience of riding the wake, and it's there I want to go in this post. Simply, wouldn't it be great to get ourselves into the wake that was caused by Christ & ride it to wherever it takes us.
To be free of the worries of 'where will I go' or 'what will I do' & simply let this wake of Christ drive us along.

I know it's not quite as simple as all that, but I definitely think that if we were to immerse ourselves where this wake is deepest, our lives would take on a whole new perspective. We would be driven by His Word, in love & obedience to Christ. Directed in His will to where He would take us & we would know that driving or 'filling' of the Spirit that drives us along much like wind in a sail or the waves on a canoe.

Jesus influence runs deepest upon our lives when we come to Him in the Bible & with prayer. His Word reveals His will & His Word will be a driving force that directs & shapes our lives if we delve into its overwhelming power that will pick us up & carry us along.

In Colossians 1:9 Paul talked of being 'filled' with the knowledge of God's will, this filling speaks of your life being 'governed by'; 'controlled by'; 'unable to get away from'; 'always influenced by' & being ruled by' the will of God, which is found clearest in God's Word.

Lets get in deep & let the wake of the greatest ship that has ever touched the shores of humanity carry our lives to the shores of His great Kingdom!

Great post!

My question is what kind of wake do we leave behind? and how big is our wake?
