ESV Study Bible...

4

Yesterday morning Simon Thompson let me see a sample of the ESV Study Bible (It's not in the shops yet, but i'm told that any day now this nugget will land on bookshelves here in N.Ireland).
I looks amazing & I can't wait to get a copy of this wonderful tool!

If you don't know anything about it yet go HERE to the website for the Bible.

Here's some stats:
25,000-plus notes--focusing especially on understanding the Bible text and providing answers to frequently raised issues.

Over 50 articles--including articles on the Bible's authority, reliability, and interpretation; on biblical archaeology, theology, worship, prayer, and personal application.

Over 200 full-color maps--created with the latest digital technology, satellite images, and archaeological research; printed in full color, throughout the Bible.

200-plus charts--offering key insights and in-depth analysis in clear, concise outline form; located throughout the Bible.

80,000 cross-references--to encourage easy location of important words, passages, and biblical themes.

More than 40 new full-color illustrations--including historically accurate reconstructions of the Tabernacle, the Ark of the Covenant, Solomon's temple, Herod's temple, the city of Jerusalem in Jesus' time and throughout the history of Israel, and many more.

*One Added Thought:
As I 'peeked' at this Study Bible with excitement I wondered what it must have felt like for those 16th century Christians in England as they anticipated the coming day when they might own the Bible that a Mr. Tyndale was putting together... (a completely different thing altogether since it would be the only Bible available to them & they risked death to own one. But i'm sure hope, excitement & anticipation filled their souls far more than we ever experience).

When you consider that about 80% of the AV is also basically Tyndale - it shows just what a marvelous gift he was to the Christian church.
But 25,000 notes - I think thats your reading sorted out for the winter.

Tyndale was such an amazing man, like you say a gift to the Christian Church.
Last year I read a biography by David Daniel on Tyndale - what a life!
Praise God we can enjoy the fruit of his labour in the english language!

When I read his biography it re-affirmed in my heart and mind my calling to Every Home Crusade & the printing & distribution of God's Word.

It's such a priviledge to have His word so available & with so many study aids that many before us didn't - we just have to make sure we make use of it.

I live in the US and pre-ordered a copy. It's great!

As for the David Daniell work on Tyndale, I read about half and went on to another book. It was great and I do plan to finish it. Tyndale left an amazing language legacy...

Can't believe we're so far behind in the bookshops here.

the supplyers need to work on that!

The book on tyndale is a huge book & I have to confess that it took me a couple of goes at reading it but it is well worth the effort.
