A Vintage Holiday

0
We enjoyed our break in Malta, though it was a bit too warm (38-40+). The villa was beautiful & the pool was a great relief from the blazing sun though we were continually chasing Jacob as he loves water and kept going straight for it.

One of the joys of a holiday is always a good book - this year I'd been saving Vintage Jesus by Mark Driscoll & Gerry Breshears. When Jacob went to sleep on the flight there I got straight into it.
Most of the book is simply straightforward, biblical teaching about the person and work of Jesus Christ.

I especially loved the chapter 'What Did Jesus Accomplish on the Cross?' which was both sickening & thrilling as the description of a bloody, cruel, agonizing death moved to the redemptive work of the same.

Another favourite chapter was 'How Did People know Jesus was Coming?' - Which is pretty much a chapter of Scripture as the authors parallel Old Testament Prophecies with their New Testament fulfillment in Jesus. This chapter is like mini-piles being driven into an already existing foundation strengthening it (those in construction will understand this picture).

For a review on Vintage Jesus check out what Tim Challies said about it.

Other books I enjoyed were 'Emperor, Gods of War' by Conn Iggulden and 'The Eagle's Prophecy' by Simon Sparrow, both these fiction books were at the villa.
