Romans 14:17
"For the Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit."
We all need to eat and drink for the sake of replenishing & nourishing our bodies; Food is in fact a great gift from God, one with a variety of pleasurable tastes, scents and textures. It is something that we should give thanks for and enjoy to His glory [1 Cor 10:31].
But I think Augustine helps us out with a warning against a danger in all of this eating.
"While health is the reason for our eating & drinking, yet a perilous delight joins itself to them as a handmaid: and indeed, she tries to take precedence in order that I may want to do for her sake what I say I do for health's sake...
...They do not both have the same limit either. What is sufficient for health is not enough for pleasure."
Now I don't think that its wrong to want tasty food, nor to enjoy food, but the Bible does speak often against gluttony, (in fact it speaks more often against this than drunkenness).
The desire for 'pleasure' in food would take us far beyond the limit of healthy eating, I think the rising number of TV shows & News articles about obesity show us that if left without restraint, this pleasure would lead us into great health problems.
I think that if we were to consider the glory of God when it comes to our meal times we may find that our eating habits may change and we may be a bit healthier as our hearts change and we cultivate a greater appetite for Christ than food.
