I heard the following statement in a message this morning and I thought it was something interesting to think about;
"Its not how many times you've been through the Bible that counts,
It's how many times the Bibles been through you!" Tom Nelson
I don't think that its wrong to read through the Bible as many times as we can, but simply going through it and reading it, though good, may not have its affect upon our lives if we do not let it study us, and if we do not open our lives to the Bible assessment of us!
For example, we may read Matthew 5:3-10 (The Beatitudes), and neglect to permit these statements from Christ to engage our lives!
As we read such things surely we must allow them to ask;
"How is your Spirit, is it poor? Because its the poor in Spirit who will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.
Do you mourn? Those who mourn will be comforted!
What about meekness, will you inherit the earth?
Do you hunger and thirst after righteousness, will you be filled?
What about mercy in your life and will you receive mercy?
How pure is your heart? It is the pure of heart that will see God!
Are you a peacemaker? those who are will be called sons of God.
How willing are you to be persecuted for righteousness sake?"
These words have greater affect when we have them stand over our lives and engage with us about us and God!
The reading and even memorizing of scripture is good, but far better to understand, contemplate, engage with and apply that which the Scriptures would say!
