Enagaging with a film - I am Legend

0
I finally got around to watching I am Legend at the weekend, and though as a film I wasn't that impressed I couldn't help but engage with it, some of its themes and find my mind going to the real truth of the Scriptures.

Beginning with the title which points us to the fact that this film is about one person, played by Will Smith, I thought of The I AM of the story of all time, because all of history, all of eternity past and of eternity future is about God who calls Himself I AM (Exodus 3:14).

Then there was a virus sweeping through the whole human race bringing them to a depraved state, much like that which began when Adam ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil when SIN swept into the world bringing every human into a depraved state and in no position to save themselves.

Then there's the part early in the film where Will Smiths character chooses to stay in the main contaminated area in order to fix things and find a cure. Much like Jesus who chose to come into the world and dwell with sinful man in order to bring redemption.

Then there was the high cost of the cure pointing my mind to reflect on the high cost that Jesus paid for our cure and forgiveness, his death at the hands of those He was trying to save.

But the most outstanding thoughts came from the theme that these creatures could not stand light pointing me to think of John 3:20
"For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed." reminding us of our own hatred of light which is found in Christ and His Word.

Then the quote that is prominent in the movie "Light up the Darkness" threw my mind to the high calling of Phillipians 2:14-15

"Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world"
