Earlier today Junior Hilland from work brought a devotional to us as we gathered for Monday morning prayer.
He read from 1 Peter 2 and though I can't remember everything (due to being pretty dumb), one verse that he read was pretty striking.
In verse 5 he reminded us;
"you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ."
Although we may be in 'Christian' work, and involved in a work that is blessed by and being used greatly by God to call sinful people to Himself we need to be careful that our service or ministry is a spiritual sacrifice and one that is acceptable to God through Christ Jesus.
So as we all serve in various ways, no matter what it be, perhaps;
o Teaching Sunday schools- we need to be teaching Sunday school as a spiritual sacrifice through Christ Jesus.
o Pastoring Churches- we need to be pastoring as a spiritual sacrifice through Christ Jesus.
o Folding leaflets in EHC- we need to be folding leaflets as a spiritual sacrifice through Christ Jesus.
o Elders, Deacons, preachers, evangelists, Youth leaders, Children workers, missionaries, fathers, wives, husbands, children, students, employers, employees, whatever; as Christians we ought to be careful that all is done as a spiritual sacrifice through Christ Jesus and therefore is acceptable to God.
In the book that I was reading today the author wrote something that is quite fitting to this line of thought;
"All that will matter forever and ever in our heavenly state is the glory that came to God through our lives."
