I was reading through Psalm 119, provoked by the message 'Cultivating biblical meditation and prayer'.
The Psalmist longing for the Word of God is amazing and of a huge challenge.
Many questions resound when we read such things as;
'15 I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways.' - Do I meditate/Think on God's precepts and contemplate His ways?
More
'20 My soul breaks with longing For Your judgments at all times.' - Does my soul break with a longing for God's word all the time?
Can I say '10 With my whole heart I have sought You'?
Or
'69b ...I will keep Your precepts with my whole heart.' [with my whole heart? This is ridiculous, do any of us do anything whole heartedly?]
And I think that if I'm (we) are honest 'The law of Your mouth is better to me Than thousands of coins of gold and silver' is perhaps not how we often feel.
I want to suggest that we could use this Psalm to pray through, making it first person and asking God for these yearnings and desires to be put in our hearts, to seek Him whole heartedly and ask that God would give us understanding of and a love for His word as well as lives that are upright and lived according to His statutes.

I'm so glad you posted this.
I remember a few years ago I was in the house alone, getting ready to go out to take a meeting at a mission hall. I was feeling pretty rotten over sin in my life, distant from God and also totally unfit to be taking a meeting when God lead me to Psalm 119.
I began reading it ALOUD as my own prayer to God (originally intending only to read a few verses) but received such a blessing from the Spirit of God that I kept reading until the end. It comes totally recommended, as does that sermon "Cultivating Biblical Meditation and Prayer". I found it extremely challenging!
p.s. The meeting went really well to the glory of God, even though I was a bit late due to the 176 verses. -
