Acts 2:42-47
"And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved."
In these verses we find important components of the early church;
The Apostles' doctrine - The Apostles taught the people who 'continued steadfastly' in what they were taught. Teaching is an important and central part of our walk with God, without this we will not grow in faith nor love of God.
Fellowship - These Christians spent alot of time together, not just at church gatherings but in social aspects, encouraging, helping and exhorting one another often having meals together.
Breaking Bread - The Lord's Table.
Prayers - Christianity is not only fellowship with other humans, but of a relationship with Holy God. We are commanded by Him to pray to Him.
They were fearful - Proverbs 1:7 says that the beginning of all knowledge is the fear of God. Christians ought to hold God in high esteem, honouring and reverencing Him and being in Awe of Him.
Wonders and signs - The Apostles done many miracles and wonders, today we may not do miraculous things but in faith we can accomplish many great things to bring the Love and the Gospel of Christ to others.
Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need - These Christians served one another, using their possessions and goods to support and serve one another. We ought to support and serve each other.
So continuing daily with one accord - Unity is an important part of the Christian life; behold how good and how pleasant it is where brethren dwell together in unity.
Gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God - Joyful Worship in the simplicity of the heart is something that should be found in all Christians who are experiencing a close relationship with Christ.
Having favor with all the people - As Christians serve and love those outside the church, helping and supporting the needs of unbelievers they gain favour and often win respect of those they come in contact with.
And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved - Evangelism was an integral part of the early church, it is through the foolishness of preaching that God has chosen to save sinful men and women, so it is pretty plain that the early church must have been telling others of this Gospel. We today ought to be boasting of this great news, telling others of the Cross of Jesus Christ and evangelising wherever we go.
