Reading Classics Together - Holiness (Sin)

0
This week in Reading Classics Together saw the first chapter of J. C. Ryles Holiness being read by many who've decided to read a chapter a week with Tim Challies. A few days ago whilst reading this chapter I simply posted some extracts from it.

Today Tim has posted on it and opens this chapter to discussion.
Check out Tim Challies thoughts on it here

Sticking in my mind
One thing that struck my mind from this chapter was;
"It [sin] is not picked up from bad companions and bad examples, as some weak Christians are too fond of saying. No! It is a family disease, which we all inherit from our first parents, Adam and Eve, and with which we are born."
So often we are busy blaming our own and/or others sin on past events, parents, bad company, wrong influences but though these may hold some blame, at the core of sin is the fact that we are, to put it simply, sinners. We do not need influence or instruction in sin, it comes natural to us. I am sure that this will display itself in my household as Jacob gets older, he like all of mankind has a corrupt heart that is apart from God, minds that love darkness more than light, and actions that are mostly self exalting rather than God glorifying.

"I blame the parents" or "culture's to blame" become little more than an excuse when compared to the sinful, God denying soul at the core of humanity.
