Gary Bolton was talking to me about having a definition of the gospel that is simple and straight forward enough to give in around sixty seconds.
Gary Bolton suggested one way, originally from Will Metzer (I think), taking the headings; God, Man, Christ & Response. So below i've taken those headings and in my own way expanded them.
God:- God is eternal, holy and Perfect, He made everything in six days and He made it perfect.
Man:- Man was made by God but the first man Adam sinned (disobeyed) God and because of that we are all seperated from God and we are all sinners condemned to death and eternal punishment from God. (We have all sinned against God).
Christ:- Jesus Christ, the Eternal Son of God left heaven and came to Earth, lived a completely holy and righteous life, fulfilling God's law for us, died on the cross taking God's wrath over our sin and arose again on the third day according to the Scriptures.
Response:- Our response to Christ's righteous life and propitionary death ought to be sorrow over our sinful and seperated state in which we are enemies of God, repentance over our sin, and belief as in Jesus Christ who took our punishment. Further response is to love Him and live according to His commands.
Anyone have any short definitions of the gospel they'd like to share?
