I was reading an article in the Belfast Telegraph titled The '24' phenomenon: 'I don't know how many more series we can do' and a phrase that was used in talking about the commitment needed from veiwers to watch this show struck me;
"The format has created a broad church of fanatics, for whom the show's time demands are not only unobstructive, but attractive"
It is no secret that 24 is as addictive as cocane and has a huge following, but to call that church?
I think this article says it right, it is a church of many thousands around the world sitting down for an hour a week to faithfully follow this show. In fact I know some who watch its first showing, then the repeat during the week and watch the dvd when it comes out, (and i'm probably one of them), which shows that this is indeed a fanatical following of this show!
"The show's time demands are not only unobstructive, but attractive".
The fact that time each week has to be taken to sit and watch this show is not a burden, it is a joy and many people look forward to it, infact for many of us when the episode ends we are crying out for more, I think of the times when Barbara & I have put the dvd on to watch an episode and watched a disc instead.
But what I really wanted to bring out in a thought here was basically; how great would it be if this article was talking about Jesus Christ, "He has created a broad church of fanatics, and His time demands, (as well as every other demand from Him), are not only unobstructive, but attractive."
Just a quick thought, and if you're reading this and don't watch 24...repent and get down to HMV and get the 1st 5 seasons, take 5 days of work and 100 tins of redbull and some strong coffe.
