Concerning Upcoming Elections (things said to win a vote)

1
A friend was asking if i knew of persecution in Ireland (South). While i'm not really the person to ask i do have a few Christian friends, acquantances and contacts around Ireland and don't really know of any 'persecution' (if you aren't embarressed calling it that when compared to what many face in other parts of the world).

A politician had been on her doorstep (not just a minion canvasing) seeking to persuad her that as a Christian she needs to be careful in voting so as to keep away from a united Ireland because the Christians there face persecution.
Undoubtedly there are restrictions and difficulties faced by them, as with our own. But can we really say that Ireland is persecuting evangelicals?

Don't get me wrong, i'm not posting in order to side for-or-against a united Ireland, i'm just saying that it's hard to take people serious when they're clutching any old straw in order to get a vote, even if that straw be false or stretched.

Having been brought up in the south for many years and then moved to the north, I can say that there is probably more freedom of religion in the south than there is in the north. As for been careful not to vote for a united ireland because they are been persecuted, surely as a christian he or she should be helping others in persecution not trying to save themselves from it and forget them????????? I think whoever this party is they are more about vote scoring than the real issues.
