Knowing Bible/Knowing God

2
"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge"

Hosea 4:6 is one really good reason why we ought to read and study the Bible.

The people are described as being 'destroyed' because they were not getting taught the Scriptures (the prophets and priests bore responsibility for this - Hosea 4-6)'.

But before we get all guilty and read for the sake of it, let's remember that the Bible's intent is that we know the God of the Bible. It is written, not as a history or text book, but as the revelation of God. It is this book in which God has chosen to reveal Himself most clearly.

Let's read our Bibles so that we may go deeper in our relationship with our creator . . . with our Father.

I've always been sobered by Jesus' words in John 5:39, "You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me"

Oh man, thanks for reminding me of that verse! It is a brilliant one for showing the purpose of seeing Jesus through Scripture - they are there so we can know the one who wrote them.

(That'll undoubtedly be a verse for a future post)
