Cold Hands
The weather has been pretty cold. Snow is nice for about 20 mins (the time it takes to build a snowman with your kid), but once reality sets in and we remember that we've to drive to work etc it gets a bit tiresome.
In much the same way i have periods in which i'm looking to other things than Jesus for joy and life.
I find that there are times in which i would rather play xbox or watch tv, read fiction or just vegetate on the couch than read my Bible, pray or meditate upon the things of God.
Back to Reality
It's ok for a while, but when reality of living sets in, and when i remember that i've to lead a family, kids to teach in the way of LORD, a wife to romance and wash in the water of God's Word. Not to mention a job in missions, following Christ and worship Him; sitting on my butt or shooting covenant forces in Halo aren't really much help.
Thawing Out
Much like when you build a snowman without gloves, and when you go indoors to have useless numb hands that pain you for a while, it is hard to shake off the spiritual coldness.
It is difficult to return to Bible devotions and study, prayers etc. And even while the desire, longing & the knowledge of our need for those things and for Christ overpowers us we struggle to embrace them.
I guess that, much like the heat sources we use to thaw us out (open fire, heaters, hot water), we need a source of spiritual heat to draw near. If we don't, frostbite will take a grip of our souls.
The best source to thaw our heart is probably the Bible . . .
