Lessons About Love From A Child & Fireman Sam

6

My son loves Fireman Sam!
He'd watch the same Dvd's on repeat all day if we let him and would watch nothing else. When it comes on TV he'll run & put on his Fireman Sam helmet & pretend that he's Sam. He sits with 'Sam's car' (meaning Fire engine), Tom's 'Copty' (meaning helicopter) and the respect figures including a Penny & another Tom.

He takes the figures to bed with him & has awoke screaming in the middle of the night "Copty, Copty, Copppppppptttttteeeeeeeeyyy." Which i then trudge downstairs to get, make my way back up those mountainous, 3 O'clock in the morning stairs and hand it to him. He hugs it tight then goes quietly back to sleep with this helicopter the size of a small cat held close.

Even this morning, i awoke to find him lying between Barbara & i walking the figures around the pillow. When he saw me awake he asked for 'Sam's car'.
He absolutely loves Fireman Sam!

What Do i Love?
I on the other hand find that God calls me to love Him with all my heart, soul, mind & strength. Which means that i should love God far more than my son loves Fireman Sam.

But here's the questions that Jacob causes me to ask:

  • Do i often sit surrounded by God's Word?

  • Could i spend all day reading the Bible or listening the Bible on Mp3?

  • Is God so delightful to me that nothing distracts me?

  • Is God my last thought at night or my first thought in the morning?

  • Do i awake in the middle of the night screaming (audibly or internally) for Christ to come near & be with me?

  • Am i more than willing to express my love for God to anyone around me?

  • Do i want to imitate my Lord?

I wasn't into him, intill the past few wks. Ragin Babs won't let me paper our room in Sam paper & get Fireman Sam quilt covers for our bed (if they do them in kingsize).

Jacob has definately won me into the Fireman Sam club

    Awesome post.

I guess that's kind of why Jesus says we should become like children... so we can love with abandon.

Oh how great it would be to live with abandon, Jacob ran down Bow st in Lisburn prettending to be an airplane, arms stretched out and circling people.

I'd personally love to be that way. . .maybe not prettending to be a plane but in unashamed abandonment in telling strangers about Jesus!
    Wow

    Great post---
How I can relate, thinking of all of the things my children love....and do I really have that same desire and zeal for the Lord?
    Great thoughts...

Hey Heartafire, how's things with you? Trust the Lord's continuing to bless & keep!

Kids are such a lesson to us all in so many areas. This just seemed like an obvious one as i've been watching jacob with Sam
