How Secure are our Children's Facilities?

2
Mark Driscoll when writing about the horrific events of the weekend in which a Pastor was shot as he preached, asks some very serious questions about Church Security. One of these questions is something that Barbara & i have discussed quite often, about how secure facilities are. Driscoll writes:

"2. How secure is your children’s ministry?
Are there security guards ensuring that no one but approved parents are allowed into the children’s area or can anyone walk in off the street and have access to the children? Is there a safe and secure check in and check out procedure for the children?"

In my own experience of Churches i would say that the security of creche & children facilities mostly depend on the leaders/carers knowing or recognising parents. Whether or not we believe this to be the best way, it is always good to ask if it is the most secure way?

Children rely upon us to protect them from the depravity of wicked men & women who would harm them. So i guess it is good to ask ourselves & our leaders: 'How safe can we make our children's facilities?'

I have great concern over this issue, I feel anyone could walk in off the street and take a child, I think there should be a system set up where you must go to the door and wait for the staff to come and check who you are and then let the child out! I know in our church you just walk in and lift your child there could be 5 different people in picking up kids at the same time you could easily lift a child without been noticed!

Yeh, there has got to be some safer system. Unfortunately it generally takes something terrible to happen before we catch on that our mistakes & set up better safety measures
