I'm always pleased when someone gives a suggestion for this blog. Recently a close brother suggested a weekly word study (for any of the guys who attended the Bottear Men's Fellowship you'll know what is meant by this).
Simply it is to choose a word and meditate upon its meaning. Here I'm probably going to suggest the choosing of a verse or passage and each week take each word in order and meditate on the meaning of it in the context of that passage and of the surrounding passages. And one day a week, (I'll choose that later), discuss that word on Homileo.
This can be a rich and valuable way to glean insight into a particular passage of the Bible and one which I freely admit that I struggle with and rarely participate in. I'm not that great a writer or a thinker and I'm not that well educated (GCSE is as far as I got) so don't expect anything ground shattering and don't feel the need for your participation to be utterly profound! I simply think it would be fun to discuss the weekly pondering of a word in context and learn from each other.
John Piper said once about studying Scripture 'If you rake you get leaves, if you use a shovel you get dirt, if you use a pick axe you just might get a diamond' and though he was encouraging for deep study (which I fully agree with), I believe that in study leaves need raking, dirt needs shoveling and diamonds need pick axing.
So whether you are a pick axe, shovel or a rake your thoughts, discussion and input are extremely welcome.
So I'm asking if anyone is interested in participating in this, and if you have any suggestions as to which verse to try this with (Probably a short one to begin with).
