In "Reading Classics Together" Tim Challies highlighted this phrase of John Owen;
“He that is appointed to kill an enemy, if he leave striking before the other ceases living, does but half his work.”
As I thought of this phrase it occurred that each of us, as Christians are called by Christ to kill sin in our lives. Our Lord has given us the desire to do this (The new hearts of Eze 11:19); The strength for the task (The Holy Spirit-); and the weapons of choice (Armour & weapons of God-Eph 6:11-18).
I'm sure you have failed in this task as I have!
The question is before us; "Will we stay where we are with half a job done, often loosing ground to our enemy or will we "take up the whole armor of God, that [we] may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." (Eph 6:13)?
Will we do all that we possibly can to overcome sin and then some?
