A good, Christian Laying on of hands?

4
Throughout the Old Testament we find many occasions of violence in the name of God which He commanded His people Isreal to commit. And in the New Testament we find none other than Jesus taking the time to make a whip and then beating people out of the Temple for making it a den of theives.
So is there ever an occasion for us (mainly guys) to show such strength and force, perhaps in protecting our families or countries or even protecting our brothers and sisters in Christ?

I ask this because recently a brother (who gave his permission for me to ask this), caught a young guy stealing handbags from an area in his church. Upon catching him he pulled him to the ground and literally gave him a kicking before letting him run away.

I know that there are many views on such issues and was just wondering what some others thought on it.

[Please comment graciously, this is not a major doctrinal issue to fall out over. But I do know that we can often be very passionate in our opinions on such things so I ask you to respect other opinions and debate rather than argue]

Didn't kick the rascal hard enough. Pity his mates escaped. They all deserved a beating.

Yes. I think people need to realise that sin has consequences. And men sometimes have to stand up and be men - not the stereotypical passive wimpy type "Christian" like Ned Flanders.
