Over the next couple of days I'll post a list of all the books I've (fully) read since last Christmas '07. But today I thought I'd give you the top 5 books I enjoyed in '08.

1. ESV Study Bible* (Obviously I haven't read this in full yet).

2. Death by Love - Mark Driscoll

3. Crazy Love - Francis Chan

4. 70 Lessons in Preaching & Teaching Christ - George Goodman

5. The Reason for God - Tim Keller

What are 5 books that you enjoyed in 2008?

SimonT - for those who might be hmmming & haaaing about buying this study Bible, what would you tell them? And explain how scarce it's getting over here as to impress a buy now rather than miss out!

Oh & for the sake of anyone who didn't catch on - I was joking about the commission!

I think i would tell them to go buy one. With any study bible there is always going to be difficulties, disagreements, and issues arising from men giving their perspectives and interpretations of the text. So, with that in mind if you want a study bible that you can fully agree with then you will struggle and either have to forego purchasing a study bible, with notes etc, or find someone you agree with 100% and buy theirs. All that is said as backdrop to my commendation of the ESVSB. wITH 2752 pages, over 20.000 notes and 80,000 cross references, 200 maps, 50 practical articles including a bible overview, overview of history of salvation, how to read the bible theologically, and for communion with God, and the list goes on, it is a great study tool. It is briliantly laid out with single column text and the relevant maps on the relevant pages with the text. I think if anyone is looking a comprehensive, detailed study bible this is one to go for. And yes Gary it is scarce. There are no more available from supplier with most shops now having gone out of stock. Availability from supplirs won't pick up again until March time, or thereabouts. I think if someone wants one, move now.
