A Couple of Thoughts on Exodus 26

3
Yesterday morning before leaving for work I continued reading through Exodus, taking up in Chapter 26. This chapter is God's instruction for the building of the Tabernacle, and after winning against the temptation to merely glance through it rather than reading properly I began to ask what this chapter taught me about the character of God.

God is interested in specifics & details.
He didn't just give the instruction to build a tent with basic outlines of what He wanted. No God gave instructions on colours, artistic designs, & even on how parts were to be joined with bronze clasps. He gave sizes for each section & materials to be used throughout the Tabernacle.

God Is A God of Excellence & Skill.
In God's instructions on the construction of the Tabernacle He tells in vs 1 to make 10 curtains of fine twined linen & blue & purple & scarlet yarns with cherubim *SKILLFULLY worked into them. (*Emphasis added). And we read the same call for Skill in verse 31 again to do with the artistry of cherubim on curtains.

In Summery.
This project wasn't simply to be thrown together with an 'it'll do rightly' approach, rather God called for excellence in art & construction using specific materials with specific sizes & design. This shows that God is a God of order, skill, excellence, design & pays attention to specifics.

Isn't it great to know that the same God who was so specific in His instructions of making a Tabernacle is as specific about knowing us; like knowing how many hairs are on your head (Matt 10:30).

I see this the same way you do; He is a God of absolute order, and obviously the tent was pretty important to him. I love the faithfulness of the people carrying it out.
At the same time, I'm thankful not to live in OT times; I don't think I would have held up very well to all of the standards and requirements of the law. Thank God He saw fit to send Jesus, that I might be able to live "under the mercy."

In addition to the "hairs on your head" verse, I always find great satisfaction in the one about how he cares when even one sparrow falls. And it tells us if he cares about the sparrow, then how much more He cares for us.
There's a great hymn from my childhood "His Eye is on the Sparrow" and I find myself humming it when I am anxious.

Yeh, the law in the Old Test. was a heavy thing & I agree, we'd have failed, as the Hebrews did, to live under it.
Thankfully Galatians teach us that the Law was given as a school master to show that we couldn't keep it in perfection and so needed the sacrifice of Christ (the Old Test. Sacrifices being a foreshadow of Him).

I stand with you in praise that Christ came & we are under grace & mercy through His life, death & resurrection.
